My name is Dr. Aishwarya Prakash and I am 24 years old, currently working as a Junior Resident in NIMHANS, Bengaluru. I attended high school at Cambridge School, KR Puram, where I got this brilliant opportunity to be part of CMCA.
In middle school, I remember being thrilled to start 8th grade. One of the major reasons behind it was the CMCA Club programme. We had enthusiastic seniors who were part of CMCA before us and they always left us stunned with all the activities and initiatives they’d plan and execute. So, it is safe to say that even before I got the chance to be a part of the CMCA Club programme, I was inspired and ready to be an active citizen.
Our CMCA teacher Priya ma’am was always so cheerful, supportive, and approachable that all of us students eagerly awaited Saturday’s CMCA classes. The sessions and activities on relevant social and civic issues made us more aware and engaged as citizens. I still remember one of our campaigns during the Lok Sabha elections that year. We learnt about every citizen’s responsibility to vote in CMCA class and decided to conduct an awareness drive to the cry of “Vote for Our Sake” in the school neighbourhood. That same year, we organised another campaign on a large scale where we collected wastepaper and old newspapers from all the students and faculty at our school. We then sold the paper to a nearby recycler. With the proceeds, we gifted laboratory equipment to a nearby government school. I vividly remember the sense of purpose I felt when I could give back to the community.
Years have passed but my urge to serve society and bring about change has not altered. That’s what motivated me to choose a medical career. Looking back, I can say for certain that I would be a different person if not for CMCA.
