Hello, there! My name is Mahima. I recently completed my B.Com and I’m currently interning with CMCA’s Finance Team during my gap year. Many years ago, when I was in 7th grade at the Mirambika School for New Age in Bengaluru, I was part of the CMCA Club programme for a year.
While I learnt a lot during that time, what stayed with me the most were the awareness drives we conducted on how to celebrate festivals in an eco-friendly way. These campaigns taught me the impact of our actions on the environment and how we can all make a difference. The same goes for the session on local government. I was inspired by it to call the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board helpline number to fix an overflowing manhole in my neighbourhood. I even received a certificate and a badge for it during the school assembly, it was so motivating! The CMCA Club programme made me more environmentally conscious and to date, I still avoid using single-use plastic and do not litter.
CMCA’s teachings stayed with me and, after completing my Bachelor’s Degree, I came to know that CMCA was looking for someone to support the Celebrating Namma Bengaluru’s Traffic Police initiative in schools. While I joined to know more about teaching and what goes on behind the profession, being part of this initiative taught me about the importance of respecting rules and personal integrity. I thought, “How can I go to schools teaching something to children if I do not practice it myself?”
Overall, being part of CMCA, first as a student and now as an intern, has taught me valuable lessons and had a significant impact on my life.
